The Nyarugusu refugee camp in Tanzania has reached breaking point. More than 180,000 refugees who have fled violence in Burundi have been living in difficult, overcrowded conditions since April 2015. As more refugees continue to pour into Tanzania, a new camp, Nduta, was established in October. Many of the children living in the camps have witnessed extreme violence, and many have been separated from their parents.
The child rights organisation Plan International has set up safe spaces for children to learn and play within the camps. Ahead of the holiday season, the organisation joined with Clowns Sans Frontières -France (Clowns Without Borders France) to provide support to children through laughter, play and performance.
